Ryan selected University of Nevada, Reno for the School of Journalism

His interests were broadcast journalism and sports management with aspirations of becoming a broadcaster 

He planned to pursue opportunities for internships within the University of Nevada, Reno Division I Sports Programs, the Reno Aces Triple-A Baseball Club and the Reno Bighorns NBA Development League
